15-9 Months Prior

Start Pinning!

Make a dream board on Pinterest to get inspired by décor, fashion and all the wedding details. Don’t get too stressed out by all of the ideas you come up with-this is simply to determine what you like and envision for the big day.

Crunch some numbers

Form a wedding budget so you’ll know how much to allocate toward certain things. Pool together your finances, your family’s- whoever is supporting the biggest day of your life!

Pick your wedding party

As soon as you post that engagement photo on Instagram, your friends and family will start to wonder what their role is in the wedding. Get to it and tell them in a fun, innovative way.

Pick your party people

Determine how many guests you and your partner want to have. Whether it’s 50 or 200, this number will allow you to make decisions on venues, food and more. The best way to keep your budget low is to limit the number of guests, so think twice about inviting that friend of a friend or old neighbor you never see.

Secure a date and venue(s)

Pick a date along with ceremony and reception venues. At Wayfarers Chapel, your wedding reservation can be made in person or by phone through the Reservation Office. Your reservation also includes a planning conference with a wedding director, who will discuss aspects of your service  and be there with you on your wedding day!

Meet with an officiant

At Wayfarers, ministers of the chapel officiate at all weddings and sign all documents. A chapel minister will meet with you for a minster’s conference and discuss what special plans you might have.

8 Months Prior

Consider and book photographers, music and flowers

Wayfarers actually has a curated list of suggested professional photographers we have worked with in the past. The photographers have intimate knowledge of the grounds and knowledge, and utilize the best angles at all times of day. For the ceremony, music is included and played by the chapel musician, so you’ll only need to find a band or DJ for your reception venue. For ceremony flowers, aisle and pew flowers are the only florals allowed in the chapel, and can be added as a flower package. This way, you only have to worry about flower arrangements at the reception!

Say yes to the dress!

Once you find a dress you love, you’ll need to book at least three fittings to make sure it’s just right. Whether you decide to accessorize with a veil or flower crown, you can shop for that within the next few months!

Make sure your out-of-town guests are covered

Make sure to reserve a block of rooms at a hotel near your reception venue for any out-of-town guests! Be considerate of price points, so choose two or three hotels to accommodate your guests’ needs.

Confirm a registry

Choose at least three retailers, and send out a list to your guests so they know exactly where and what they need to shop for! Popular picks are Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and more!

6 Months Prior

Purchase those invites!

Hire a calligrapher for handwritten script, or turn to Etsy for handcrafted or printed invites.

Honeymoon travel

Start planning a post-wedding vacay and plan ahead when it comes to passports, shots or anything else you can get out of the way.

Bridesmaids dresses

Pick dresses for your squad that align with your color palette and vision but also fit their style and comfort! Make sure to allow six months for the dresses to be ordered and fitted.


Mail those highly anticipated save-the-date cards!

Wedding day timeline

Start outlining exactly how the day will go, from the ceremony to the reception (cake-cutting, toast, first dance, etc.)

4 Months Prior

Rehearsal venues

Book your rehearsal dinner venue, and finalize cost and menu.

Final check of wedding invites

Ask for a sample so you’ll know exactly what they’ll look like and can make any necessary adjustments before you mail them out!

Cake tasting

Whether you’re a cake or cupcake person, attend a few tastings and decide on a flavor and a baker.

Shower guest list

Send the host of your bridal shower a guest list!

Shoe shopping

Pick a pair of wedding shoes and wear them to your fitting so length can be adjusted by your tailor.

Hair + Makeup

Select hair and makeup artists to doll you up for the big day. Be sure to clearly emphasize what you want, and show pictures for inspiration.

3 Months Prior

Finalize menu and flowers

Make sure your desired menu and florals are in season!

Party Favors

Gift your guests the perfect parting present! If you need ideas, make sure to check out our previous blog post on grown-up goodie bags!

Toast Time

Make a list of people you wish to make toasts at the reception, and give them a heads up so they can prepare.

Purchase the bling!

Order rings to allow appropriate time for resizing and engraving, if desired.

2 Months Prior

 Meet with photographer

Discuss certain shots you wish to have taken, as well as certain areas of the venue.

DJ wish list

Touch base with the reception DJ or band to give them an outline of what you’d like played and when.

It’s finally time to mail those beautiful invitations!

Bachelorette Party

Enjoy a bachelorette party with your closest friends for a well deserved night out!

1 Month Prior

Confirm guests

Make a list of people who have RSVP’d yes, and call or email those who have not responded.

Marriage license

This process usually takes about a week, but it’s best to get it out of the way.

Seating Arrangements

Plan place settings with whatever works for you- sticky notes, sketched out, etc.
