Administrative Director

Robert Carr, Administrative Director, is a Palos Verdes native who moved to Northern California for college in the 1970s and then built his career in Silicon Valley in the 1980s and 1990s. He is pleased to now be able to give back to the communities of Palos Verdes and the South Bay by serving as the Interim Administrative Director of Wayfarers Chapel as it moves forward with plans to rebuild the National Historic Landmarked buildings at the exciting new Alta Vicente prospective site. Robert Carr received a BS and MS in Computer Engineering from Stanford and has been an entrepreneur, manager and inventor in both the PC software and web software eras. He received various industry awards for ground-breaking products in the PC software field in 1984 and mobile pen computing in 1992. He has been an active member of the San Francisco Swedenborgian church since 1995, and he serves on several other Swedenborgian boards besides Wayfarers.

Stephanie Cartozian, Communications Director, is from the Palos Verdes Peninsula and joins the Wayfarers Chapel team being a longtime supporter of the Chapel. “My twin girls and I were baptized at Wayfarers Chapel. Regardless of your faith, this National Historic Landmark has served for 75 years as an enduring symbol of our community. It is known as one of Lloyd Wright’s greatest architectural achievements.” Cartozian is the Publisher for Peninsula Magazine with a 40-year history on the hill sharing the lives of fellow community members with each other. “Building community” is what drives me and helping to share the continuing legacy and journey of Wayfarers Chapel is an honor for me to be able to do. Having attended U.C. Santa Barbara and graduated with a B.A. in Economics, Cartozian spent her first career years in banking becoming eventually a branch manager at Wells Fargo Bank, City National Bank and lastly at Union Bank in downtown Los Angeles. “My office was in the California Mart and our clients were primarily in the garment and jewelry businesses,” it was a pivotal time to be downtown as sewing and fabric factories flourished as did different designer suites, small and large, and the LA sector seemed to be booming with LA, being the fashion center for the country. Later, Cartozian moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to embark on a beer odyssey starting a craft beer company and supporting the company’s growth throughout Arizona, Nevada and California. “There was a great sense of accomplishment to see our beer in Trader Joe’s, Hard Rock Hotel bars and Circle K stores.” I felt like the process of taking a concept-to-market was one of the greatest educational opportunities of my life. I am excited to be grounded here on the Peninsula and to be able to actively share in Wayfarer’s journey alongside this truly talented team.
