Introduction to Swedenborgian Theology
Rev. Dr. Jonathan Mitchell, Dates and times TBD
The Wayfarers Chapel serves as the national memorial to the visionary religious philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772). If you have heard of Swedenborg and would like to know more about him, or if you have come to worship at the Chapel and were intrigued by our Swedenborgian teachings, this course is for you. In eight weeks we outline the basics of Swedenborg and Swedenborgianism as we explore together a series of questions:
- Who are we?
- Who is God?
- Who is Jesus Christ?
- How Should we live our lives?
- What Shall we be after death?
- What is the Bible?
- Who was Emanuel Swedenborg?
- What is the Swedenborgian Church?
Those who complete the course have the option of confirmation and membership in the Swedenborgian Church. You are also more than welcome to take the course purely for personal enrichment with no intention of joining.
To inquire or to be notified when dates and time are scheduled please contact Rev. Jonathan Mitchell.
Who Is Jesus Christ?
Rev. Dr. Jonathan Mitchell, Dates and times TBD
On the road to Caesaria Philippi, Jesus asks the disciples, “Who do people say I am?” It is a questions that has received many answers over the centuries: prophet, teacher, healer, enlightened being, spiritual guide, Son of God, Messiah, Savior, and many others. He then follows up his first question question with a more personal one: “But who do you say I am?”
In the this eight week course we pursue the first question with a special emphasis on the Swedenborgian understanding of Jesus Christ as our Risen Lord and Savior. However, our purpose in this study is to help you answer for yourself the second question: who do you say He is in your life?.
This course is offered for all those who - in the words of the song - seek to “see Him more clearly, love Him more dearly, follow Him more nearly, day by day by day…”
